Deputy's Vehicle Slammed by DUI Driver

Deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office were working a traffic accident when one of their cruisers was slammed by an impaired driver under the influence of alcohol.

Deputy Stubblefield and his trainee Deputy Garcia from the Volusia County Sheriff's office had a lucky break while working a traffic crash on U.S. 17 near Lingering Lane when a drunk driver slammed into the back of their police cruiser. Fortunately for the two deputies, no one was seriously injured during the collision, however Deputy Stubblefield was knocked to the ground and Deputy Garcia was pushed into the vehicle's dashboard. They would later be evaluated at the hospital with minor injuries and soreness

Immediately following the collision the two deputies moved to the vehicle where they found the driver, 59-year-old Victora Arevalo, was clearly intoxicated. Unable to complete a field sobriety, Arevalo was then arrested Volusia County Branch Jail on charges of DUI with injury and refusal to submit to testing with a prior refusal. He was released on his own recognizance the next day.
