Body camera footage released by the Fresno Police Department, shows an attempted "suicide-by-cop" which occurred after a man made a false police report and pulled a toy gun on responding officers.

Shortly before 11:00 P.M. on December 22nd, 2021, officers from the Fresno Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 report of a man, armed with a gun, threatening to shoot. It was unknown to the officers at the time that the 9-1-1 caller was making a false report with the intent to force a confrontation with the officers in a suicide-by-cop attempt.

As shown in the following body camera footage, the incident resulted in an officer-involved shooting after the suspect refused responding officers verbal commands and quickly pulled an unidentified object from his hoodie pocket. The suspect in this case, 26-year-old Ryan Brooks, miraculously survived this intense shooting and was left with non-life-threatening injuries.
