South American Volunteer Squad Fires RPG in Ukraine

This video, recorded by a volunteer in Ukraine’s International Legion (also called the “Foreign Legion”) shows his Colombian squad-mate firing an RPG. The RPG is armed with a thermobaric grenade, designated GTB-7MA. The round is intended for use against light vehicles, caves and battlefield fortifications. Although the Colombian communicates in Spanish, someone can be heard in the background using a patois of Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.

The languages used here provide some insight into the makeup of the International Legion. Since the formation of the Legion, an approximate 50 Colombian military veterans have reportedly volunteered, with two having been killed. While the Ukrainian Embassy in Brazil denies any official recruitment efforts, at least 500 Brazilians have reportedly mobilized. Brazil is home to an approximate 600,000 people of Ukrainian descent.
