New Years’ Eve in Ukraine had a similar flavor to Israel’s embrace of the New Year, although whereas the Iron Dome is largely automated, this counter-drone fire in Ukraine is done manually. However, these conflicts intersect in that both Hamas’ rockets fired on Israel and the Shahed drones being shot at here are both supplied by Iran. The pyrotechnics rendered by successful hits on these drones are admittedly impressive, but these hits don’t guarantee or prove that all the Shaheds were shot down. Much like Israel’s offensive war, Ukraine’s defense shows no sign of ending in 2024.
