At around 9 a.m. on October the 12th, officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded in the 5600 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard, after receiving reports of shots being fired. Dispatch informed responding officers that a man, later identified as Mario Lawrence Martinez, was holding his ex-girlfriend hostage.

As shown in the surveillance footage and body worn cameras, officers desperately attempted to de-escalate the situation, however they were unsuccessful. Toward the last confrontation on Charleston Boulevard and Sloan Lane, officers continued commanding Martinez to release the female and to drop the weapon, but again he ignored the request. Instead, Martinez raised his firearm at responding officers, further causing an officer involved shooting.

Authorities late announced Martinez was pronounced deceased on the scene shortly after the shooting. No officers were injured during this incident.
