A powerful explosion following a fire was recorded from multiple angles at a popular shopping center at the edge of Moscow on Dec. 9, 2022.

Investigators claimed arson may have been a factor at the Mega Khimki mall, but said faulty, unmaintained electrical work was a more likely explanation. The mall had been occupied by Western vendors leading up to the early 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Western businesses had since ceased operations in the complex. The explosion was said to have originated in a farm and garden section of the building which housed compressed aerosols and chemicals.
