The Philippines Coast Guard (PCG) condemned the "dangerous" and "illegal" confrontation carried out by the Chinese Coast Guard's (CCG) on August 5, 2023. According to reports, the Chinese Coast Guard vessel aggressively intercepted a chartered supply vessel of the Philippines and sprayed it with powerful water cannons. forcing it to deviate its course.

The unconfirmed footage is reportedly from the incident, but it's not clear whose drone was doing the recording. The incident occurred in a disputed sector of the South China Sea as the Philippines vessel was on its way to resupply a military outpost.
