Houthi Rebels Allegedly Shoot Down MQ-9 ‘Reaper’ Drone

This footage is comprised of a compilation of cell phone videos, which together with statements from Houthi rebels, allege that an American MQ-9 drone was shot down by their air defense system on 19 February, 2024.

In a statement released by Al Jazeera, the Houthi rebels maintain that they shot down the drone at roughly the same time as they struck a British-owned cargo ship, causing the crew to abandon ship. No video of this strike is yet available at time of writing. These actions are allegedly in response to five attacks which, the Houthis claim, were launched by the US and its allies during the night of 18 February, 2024.

Apart from the videos, the Houthi spokespersons did not release any direct evidence of the drone being downed, but if it did indeed occur, the shootdown represents the loss of a $30 million asset to the United States military. In November of 2023, the Pentagon acknowledged that one of their MQ-9s was shot down, suggesting that the Houthis have and maintain the capability to down Reapers.

UPDATE: A video released by the Houthi rebels, which claims responsibility for the destroyed drone and features both the impact and wreckage, can be found here.
