Footage has emerged showing Kazakh protestors commandeering a military troop transport truck, aiming it at government riot police, and abandoning it as it drove into the formation. The incident reportedly took place Kyzylorda in early Jan. 2022.

Peaceful protests began in Kazakhstan after liquid gas prices doubled, but the demonstrations rapidly turned into riots, looting, and arson. The Kazakh president called in ~2,500 soldiers from the Russian-lead Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) who took over various police and security posts across the country, allowing Kazakhstan to concentrate its forces onto the demonstration hot spots.

The counter protest troops were given "shoot on sight" orders and control was regained by the government. Russian troops have already begun redeploying, but it isn't clear how many will continue to occupy Kazakhstan as a peacekeeping force.

According to reports, 164 people were killed in the protests, 18 of which were security forces. Hundreds were injured and around 10,000were arrested.
