A video reportedly out of Mozambique shows the aftermath of an Islamist militant ambush against government troops, in which a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) warhead penetrated deep into the armor but didn't detonate.

The attack happened near the often contested village of Muidumbe, and was likely carried out by Ahlu Sunnah Wa-Jama, an increasingly powerful insurgent group that has sworn allegiance to the Islamic State.

The targeted vehicle appears to be a South African-produced Casspir Mk 3 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle. The Casspir has been in use since the 1980's and was the model inspiration for the US military's own MRAPs. The height of the vehicle creates distance between itself and any explosive devices in the ground, and the V-shaped hull deflects blast and debris away from the crew compartment. As you can see in the video, it is also greatly effective against small arms.
