Chicago police are still investigating an incident that occurred on January 26th, 2022, showing the moments officers engaged in a close-quarters gunfight with two armed suspects reportedly in a stolen vehicle.

Limited sources at this time indicate that officers located a stolen vehicle, occupied by three unidentified individuals, at approximately 9 p.m. As shown in the CCTV footage, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop; however the vehicle immediately attempted to flee the area. After backing into a vehicle, officers were able to successfully box the vehicle in, furthermore causing the stolen vehicle to become disabled.

While multiple officers surrounded the vehicle, two occupants discharged shots at the officers. In response, officers discharged their service weapons, critically injuring the passenger of the vehicle. Reports have indicated the wounded passenger sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was later transferred to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The other occupants in the car were not injured and were taken into custody. Police said two guns were recovered at the scene.

Two Chicago police officers involved in this incident were hospitalized for injuries but did not suffer gunshot wounds.
