This is an evolution of tactical reconnaissance, which in my time involved the deep insertion of reconnaissance platoons, scout sniper teams, mounted and dismounted reconnaissance patrols. This is a much cheaper way to accomplish that task, using small teams with commercial drones moving throughout the battlespace on ATVs and 4X4 trucks, transmitting video in real time. I do not think that this will completely remove the need for traditional reconnaissance units and missions as drones are vulnerable to EA and other countermeasures, but I could be wrong.
