Mesa, Arizona police responded to a call on May 9, 2022 about a man who was threatening people and also believed to be on mind altering substances. Upon arrival they found 27-year-old Omar Fernando Lugo-Osuna, who matched the description, and they attempted to make contact. Lugo-Osuna rapidly produced a pocket knife and swung it at the responding officer. The officer fired his service weapon at the suspect, neutralizing the incident. Lugo-Osuna was taken to the hospital and later released with non life-threatening injuries. He's been charged with one count of 'aggravated assault with a deadly weapon' as well as a charge of 'threatening and intimidating'.
