(NSFW) Texas Cop Drops Robbery Suspect Near Bystanders

This agency-provided footage from Houston Police Department shows HPD responding to a suspected robbery. The video includes several body-worn camera perspectives of the officers as well as security camera footage. The suspect and their reported vehicle were spotted and when a police officer attempted to stop the driver, the suspect, 23-year-old Albert Holmer, fled on foot through a nearby apartment complex. Despite repeated warnings to stop and drop his weapon, Holmer persisted, turning toward the officers as they ran. Officer Lopez managed to shoot the suspect, despite starting cold, chasing the suspect for some distance and having a comparatively small window to shoot, given the presence of bystanders both on the street and within the apartments. Holmer, for his part, seemed confused as to how he got shot without shooting, as if HPD were going to allow him to do that first. He was treated for his wound to the arm and booked for aggravated robbery with a weapon and unlawful carrying of said weapon.

This incident serves as a reminder that life doesn't care about what you can do when you're warmed up and ready. Lives turn on cold-start, on-demand performance.
