Intense Standoff Between Israeli Tanks and Lebanese Soldiers; UN Present

Footage released on social media today shows an intense standoff between IDF soldiers with Merkava tanks and Lebanese soldiers. The UN is there, too.

We're not sure what started the standoff given the general lack of information available right now, but one report noted that a Lebanese Officer may have provoked an Israeli Officer. In the video(s), we can see UN soldiers at least attempting to keep some level of peace, and one of the clips cuts short just as it was getting a bit hostile. We'll keep an eye on the story to see if there's anything new or breaking published from it. I don't personally think that RPG standoff with the Merkava ends well for RPG-man.

Israel and Lebanon have been at odds since their origins in the 40's, with Lebanon being one of the countries that took part against Israel in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Israeli-Lebanese relations have experienced ups and downs since, rife with spying allegations and accords, border potshots and maritime disputes. Israel has historically not allowed any Israeli citizen to enter Lebanon. Most recently in 2020, the UN mediated discussions between Lebanon and Israel related to their maritime borders, which ultimately led to a resolution to that issue signed on October 27, 2022.
