Footage presenting the effects of the destroyed Nova Kakhovka dam is now circulating on social media showing fields, roads, and city streets full of running water. Evacuations are underway as the spillage threatens the lives and homes of tens of thousands of Ukrainians.

The exact nature of the dam's destruction isn't known at this time. Ukraine is blaming Russia, saying they destroyed the dam to thwart any river crossings during the supposedly underway counteroffensive. Meanwhile, Russia is blaming Ukraine, saying the destroyed infrastructure is intended to deprive Crimea of fresh water supply. It is possible that the dam also self destructed as a result of a lack of maintenance following previous HIMARS strikes on Russian forces controlling the dam.
