Video shows armed civilians defending their neighborhood from a mob of violent looters in South Africa in mid July 2021, perfectly demonstrating the importance of the right to bear arms.

Protests broke out following the incarceration of former President Jacob Zuma, whose time in office was fraught with corruption. The protests were quickly delegitimized as the action turned into opportunistic looting and criminal damage to private property.

Several deaths occurred as criminal mobs stampeded over one another to loot liquor, clothing, and electronics stores as well as residential areas. Police forces were overwhelmed and law-abiding citizens were forced to take up arms to defend their homes and livelihoods from the violent hordes.
