Officers from the Decatur Police Department attempt to take control of a suspect armed with a handgun during a traffic stop. The suspect refuses to comply and the situation takes a deadly turn.

Two officers were left injured after a suspect pulled a handgun and opened fire on them during a traffic stop in the 1300 block of East Walnut of Decatur at around 12:25 AM on October 12, 2022.

The recording officer's POV was captured on the Body Worn Camera of Decatur Police Department officer Sgt. Timothy Wittmer, a 15-year-veteran of the department. When the suspect, 32-year-old Jamontey O. Neal, opened fire on the officers two of them were injured, but continued to return fire until the threat had been stopped.

Sgt. Wittmer was shot multiple times and Officer Austin Bowman, a 2-year veteran of the DPD, was shot once. The other two responding officers were not injured in the incident. O. Neal was later pronounced dead at the Decatur Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.
