Ukrainian Troops Conduct CASEVAC Amid Artillery Strikes

This footage, provided by the “Tsunami” Assault Regiment of the “Lyut” Police Brigade, shows a squad of Ukrainian soldiers evacuating a wounded comrade via litter, on foot. This is already an arduous task, but it is made even more harrowing by the close impacts of Russian artillery strikes. This occurred near Klishchiivka.

The Lyut (also Liut) Brigade was formed during the War in Donbas, which began in 2014 and can be considered a prologue to the current conflict. The creation of the Lyut Brigade took various police and paramilitary units that operated in the Donbas and gave them a unified, military purpose and command structure. Thus, while comradeship and self-reliance are expected of any unit, the Lyut members have a longer history of working together and with more limited resources and opportunities than many of the other Ukrainian units which were formed in response to the current hostilities.

That loyalty and willpower to take care of their fellow soldier is on full display here, shown as the soldiers walk their buddy out on a stretcher, artillery be damned. They are calm and deliberate, showing the kind of determination I would certainly hope for from my squadmates if I were in the wounded man’s position. It’s been shown that Russian soldiers can’t rely on or assume the same (link NSFW).
