RPG Near Miss Almost Takes Out Entire Rebel Squad

Published Jan. 15, 2022

A squad-sized element of rebel fighters returning fire against regime forces in Syria almost get entirely wiped out when an RPG comes in directly on top of their position. Luck is the only reason they survive.

This video is a situation that has replayed itself countless times across every battlefield since the first World War. A squad of infantry troops is in a position of cover returning fire against their enemy. There is an absolute battle for fire superiority happening between the individual squad, and their opposition. The side that wins the battle for fire superiority will be able to maneuver onwards towards victory, the side that loses will either be retreating or overrun as soon as the decision is made.

If you've ever wanted to know what it looks like to lose fire superiority, this video is it. The squad survives the RPG entirely by luck, but they immediately lose the initiative, and any hope of gaining fire superiority over their opponent. By the time the camera is able to pickup some kind of focus again, we can see that these guys are already on the backfoot, retreating from their last position of cover.

You can't win a firefight once you've lost the initiative.
