(NSFW) 18-Year-Old Leads Police in Chase that Ends in Close Range Shootout

Body worn camera video released by the Lake County Sheriff’s office captures the moment a car chase with 18-year-old Johnny Santiago violently ends in a close range shootout.

On July 10, 2022 the Lake County Sheriff’s office made a health and wellness check on 18-year-old Johnny Santiago after his mother reported an argument between the teenager and his father over the phone. Upon arriving to the home, Deputies attempted to make contact but found that no one was home. On their way back to their patrol car, they spotted a Ford F-150 that Santiago was known to drive, and the deputies attempted to make a traffic stop. Santiago immediately led the deputies on a high-speed chase involving other law enforcement vehicles and a helicopter.

During the pursuit, Santiago engaged one of the police vehicles in front of a local cemetery. He then crashed his vehicle and engaged with the officers in a shootout. Immediately after the shootout, officers secured the vehicle and firearms and then began rendering life-saving aid to the teenager who was then transported to a nearby medical facility. He is currently listed as in stable condition.

While his father is currently missing, and an investigation is underway to determine if Santiago has murdered him, he is being held in custody at the hospital. Santiago faces charges of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, discharging a firearm from a vehicle in public and aggravated fleeing and eluding lights and sirens. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is currently investigating.

No officers were injured during this officer involved shooting.

We have removed the last four minutes of this video is it added no additional context or value, and only showed the officers rendering life-saving aid to the seriously injured teen.
