Violent Carjacking Leads To High Speed Chase, Shooting, And Crash

A police helicopter following a suspected carjacker catch the man in the act as he dives into a strangers vehicle and steals it at gunpoint. The incident escalates into a high speed chase, shootout, and eventually a crash involving the suspect vehicle and a K9 unit vehicle.

According to reports, police were investigating a man identified as Justin Venegas, 40, as a suspect in a violent carjacking back in May. As they observe Venegas driving, he gets out of the driver side of a vehicle and dives into the vehicle in the next lane with a gun in hand. He wrestles the owner out and makes off with his car.

At that point, a vehicle chase breaks out on busy streets and Venegas reaches speeds in excess of 100mph and drives in oncoming lanes. The suspect reportedly open fired on pushing police units and multiple officers fired back on at least two instances.

Eventually Venegas crashed the stolen vehicle into a police K9 unit while traveling approximately 70mph. During the collision the K9 officer was injured but the K9 wasn't.

Venegas was taken into custody, treated for his injuries, and was booked on counts of attempted murder, robbery, battery, and discharging a gun into an occupied structure.
