Marines and Afghan Army Push Through Dehanna (2009)

The Marines of 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines and their partnered Afghan forces conduct an assault through Dehanna to clear the area of Taliban.


Late into the summer offensive of 2009, a company of Marines from 2nd Battalion 3rd Marines, and approximately 100 Afghan National Army Soldiers pushed into the Taliban controlled territory of Dehanna. The operation was called 'Operation Eastern Resolve II'. Securing the valley was the last crucial step in securing the Nowzad region of Afghanistan, which eventually allowed follow on forces during the 2009/2010 surge to push deeper into the Taliban controlled Helmand Province.
