On October 29h, 2021, Deputies from the Lee County Sheriff's Office were led on a high speed chase with a man who had reportedly stolen a mini van.

That evening, deputies attempted a traffic stop on the stolen van on Bayshore Road, however the suspect sped off and headed westbound toward US 41. As shown in the aerial footage, while traveling across the Edison Bridge, the suspect lost control of the van, slamming into the guard rail and disabling the vehicle.

Instead of giving up, the suspect instead threw himself off the Edison Bridge, plummeting 50 feet and smacking the Caloosahatchee River below. The Fort Myers Police Department’s marine unit arrived on scene shortly after, where they took the suspect into custody. He was transported to an area hospital to receive treatment for his injuries sustained from the vehicle wreck.

The suspect last later identified as Bryan Gray. Since the incident, Gray has been charged with grand theft auto and fleeing and eluding deputies.
