German Messerschmitt Frantically Tries to Avoid P-51 Mustang - Fails

Historic dog-fighting footage from the second World War shows a German Messerschmitt BF-109 frantically trying to avoid being shot down by an American P-51 Mustang. The video itself was recorded on an old gun-tape attached to the nose of the P-51.

The Bf-109 Messerschmitt, often referred to as the Me-109, was a German fighter aircraft produced by Messerschmitt AG. It served as the backbone of the German Luftwaffe's fighter force during World War II. It's also the aircraft that can be seen getting shot down in this video.

The P-51 Mustang was an American long-range, single-seat fighter and fighter-bomber. It was designed and manufactured by North American Aviation. Initially, the Mustang was built to fulfill a British requirement for a high-altitude fighter, but it went on to become one of the most successful and recognizable aircraft of the war. While it hasn't been confirmed yet, it is believed that the P-51 in this video is being piloted by an American pilot.

Both the P-51 Mustang and the Bf-109 Messerschmitt were formidable adversaries and had a profound impact on the outcome of World War II. The P-51 played a pivotal role in the skies over Europe, contributing to the Allied victory, while the Bf-109 was a symbol of German air power during the early war years.

Unfortunately for the Germans, the Bf-109 struggled to keep up with the allied technological advances as the war progressed. As a result, its limited armor packages and inability to conduct long range operations became serious drawbacks that meant the plane was outclassed by the P-51.
