Two Daytona Beach police officers were wounded and a suspect was killed during a shootout at an apartment building in August 2020.

The suspect, Michael Harris, 44, was wanted for an attempted murder incident just days prior, and the responding officers were serving an active warrant on him, based on a tip of his location.

As the officers arrived, Harris drew a gun and fired at the officers. The lead officers was hit, but his body armor stopped the bullet. The officer sustained significant bruising from the force of the bullet, but made a full recovery.

The officers returned fire, and Harris was hit in the shootout and died at the scene. A second officer tripped outside the apartment while running toward the gun battle and sustained a severe neck injury.
