Russian Paratroopers Ambush Mujahedeen Fighters

Published Sept. 17, 2021

Footage taken from a documentary TV show produced in the late 80's shows a group of Russian Paratroopers executing an ambush against Mujahedeen fighters in Afghanistan.

Watching this video is a serious blast from the past. Today, you would never see modern military Soldiers out on the battlefield rocking simple battle dress uniforms with zero ballistic protection. Hell, today even the tribal fighters of places like Afghanistan are generally at least rocking some ballistic protection in the form of SAPI plates. It's weird to think how much warfighting has changed in the last 40 years.

We've gone from generation 0 and generation 1 night vision optics that were only rifle mounted and that allowed the user to see a short distance in front of them at night, all the way to full-blown EOTech quad-nods that the operator mounts directly in front of their eyeballs giving them perfectly clean night vision with no lost depth perception. We've gone from lining up on a rock face and spraying down your enemy with full-auto rifle fire while you're within spitting distance of one another, to using suicide drone swarms that can take out entire enemy encampments from miles away without causing collateral damage.

Who knows what war is going to look like 40 years from now.
