(NSFW) Ukrainian Medics Treat Patient Under Extremely Close Artillery Fire

This footage, provided by a Ukrainian medic (unit and location not disclosed) shows himself and another medic working on Ukrainian casualties. However, they do so in an area receiving artillery fire from the Russians. A shell lands so close that it knocks a tree down onto the medics and their patients. While not extremely graphic, the medical nature of this footage should be seen with the viewer’s discretion.

A medic is shown treating a back injury first, and then begins treating another patient when an artillery round explodes approximately halfway through the video. Although the group hunkers down, the explosion topples a tree which lands on top of them. Naturally, the weight of the tree in addition to the broken and splintered tree limbs and branches represent significant danger, as do the pieces of the tree that are scattered at speed by the explosion. This mechanism of injury, called a “tree burst,” caused particularly high casualties in the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of Hurtgen Forest during World War Two, and remains a relevant threat today.
