MiG-31 Burns In Over Small Russian Town

Witness footage recorded in the small town of Monchegorsk located located on the Kola Peninsula near a Russian airbase captures a Russian MiG-31 burning in after the engine appears to spontaneously catch on fire.

According to local law enforcement officials, both pilots survived and the plane did not crash into any population centers in the town. As a result, there are no recorded casualties from this event.

The crash site is about 10 kilometers from Monchegorsk, which is an industrial town that is a two hour drive south of Murmansk inside the Arctic Circle. Monchegorsk Air Base has both MiG-31 and Su-24 aircraft.

Russian authorities believe that the incident was caused by a mechanical failure in the engine. It's unclear if they believe the failure was a result of sabotage.
