A massive, fiery explosion was recorded at an Iran-Afghanistan border checkpoint on Feb. 13, 2021 as a reported fuel tanker combusted due to unknown reason.

At least 17 people were hospitalized and a reported 500 cars were torched by the blast and subsequent blaze. The incident occurred at the Islam Qala customs office, on the Afghanistan side of the border in the province of Herat.

The local Afghanistan government requested assistance from Iran in dealing with the inferno and rescue operations due to their lack of relevant infrastructure.
