Drone footage released by Russian sources captures a single-man defense in a trench system that is being attacked by a squad-sized force of Ukrainian troops. The Russian manages to survive the attack long enough for artillery or mortar support to push back the attacking Ukrainian troops.

This is a pretty good frame of reference for fog of war. I doubt either side realized what they were fighting against, they just knew that down range there was the enemy, and that they needed to fight. The squad-sized unit likely had no idea they were fighting against just one man, and the lone Russian probably had no idea he was staring down the barrel of a squad of angry Ukrainians.
