Dangerously Close: Chinese J-11 Buzzes US Spy Plane

The US Indo-Pacific Command released a statement and a video showing a Dec. 21, 2022 incident in which a Chinese J-11 fighter jet intercepted a US Air Force RC-135 "Rivet Joint" Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) aircraft over the South China Sea.


The intercept was described by US military officials as "dangerously close" as the Chinese war plane came within 10 feet of the American aircraft. The pilot of the RC-135 was reportedly forced to perform evasive maneuvers to avoid a collision.
