Calm Before the Storm - Trumpet Plays Ukrainian National Anthem

Eerie footage that was recorded either in Sumy or Kyiv captures the sound of a Ukrainian Trumpet player blasting out the Ukrainian National Anthem in what appears to be a calm before the storm moment during the still escalating conflict.

As I sit writing this, it's been almost an hour since any meaningful footage has come out of the still on-going conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Looking around in our usual channels, things have slowed and the bots have come out to play their Game of Misinformation with one-another. Reposts from 2014, mislabeled as being from the last few days, and clearly faked combat footage is abundant, yet the sounds of sporadic gunfire can be heard on the outskirts of Kyiv as intermittent blasts can be seen igniting the night's sky on almost every live video feed.

Eventually, the eye of this storm will pass, and out the other end I expect to see a flood of footage and verifiable reports coming out of this specific conflict. At this time, we know for sure that one Russian Ilyushin Il-76 carrying between 100 and 150 Russian paratroopers was shot down just south of Kyiv. We also have reports of contact being reported in the suburbs of the city, and multiple individuals expected to be Russian intelligence agents have been detained by Kyiv Police for questioning.

While the content here may have slowed down in the last few hours, we're still on the job. I'm still in all of my usual channels and talking with my usual contacts on the ground. We're still going to be updating our site as fast as humanly possible when this calm eventually passes and the inevitable flood of information begins to happen once again.

At the end of the day, nobody should be looking for war. It's a terrible act of mankind that's not even unique to our species. At one point in time, every member of our team has partaken in the action of conducting war, most specifically the Global War on Terror, and even more specifically Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. However, human's are naturally curious, which is why we run this webpage. Someone needs to talk about the realities of war. Someone needs to document it. There are plenty of organizations that already do this, and we'll admit we aren't the best. We do however offer a unique perspective though, as every single writer on this webpage has experienced the awful realities of modern conflict first hand.

Anyways, I'll get off my soap box. We are still just a blog after all. The video above was recorded in either Kyiv or Sumy. We're not sure which. If you're not familiar with Sumy, it's a city that is still controlled by Ukraine. Last night there were reports coming out of the region that the Civilians of the city were forming were small militia bands and hitting Russian troops trying to move through the area very hard. This footage is also being reported as coming out of Kyiv in some channels as well however, and the video's metadata gives no hint as to where it was recorded.

I'll be here all night folks. If I'm not, one of our other writers will be. We don't intend to stop covering this conflict until we see it end, and even then we'll probably still be chronicling the footage from the past 48 hours well into the next few years.
