Film recorded during World War 2 shows one of the first attempts of American aviators to use guided munitions to destroy point targets in Cologne, Germany.

In April of 1944, American bombers attempted to deploy the GB-1 for the very first time against point-targets in Cologne, Germany. The attacks are widely known as a failure today, but this marks the beginning of guided munitions being dropped from aircraft during combat operations. The GB-1 was regarded as a failure because it was even harder to target than traditional dumb bombs of the same era, making it essentially an even dumber bomb.

Kind of crazy to think that we have gone from large planes carrying dumb bombs to large planes carrying laser guided munitions capable of landing inside of a terrorist's kitchen.
