Abkhazian Militants Battle Against Ukrainian Military In Donetsk

Footage from an unknown date, but reportedly recent, shows what appears to be militants of the Donetsk People's Republic's "Pyatnashka" brigade fighting against Ukrainian forces in the city of Avdiivka, in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region.


The "Pyatnashka" is a volunteer unit is composed mainly of Abkhazian volunteers, but also hosts Czech, Slovak, Russian, and Ossetian fighters, among others. The unit was created by 15 volunteers from Russia and Abkhazia, as evidenced by the number of stars on the patch shown briefly at 01:16.


The militants can be heard chanting "Allahu Akbar," Arabic for "God is the greatest." The unrecognized Abkhazian state consists of 30% Muslims, who support Chechen leader Kadyrov, who has sent large numbers of Chechen militants to supplement Russian operations in Ukraine.
