(NSFW) Wanted Drug Dealer Quick Draws On Cops, Gets Shot

Published Aug. 5, 2022

Body worn camera footage shows Mesa Police Officers exchanging close quarters gunfire with a wanted man on June 24th 2022.

According to the report, the officers saw a jaywalking man nearly get hit by a car and approached him to investigate. As they confronted the man, they could see a large bulge on his right hip, possibly indicating a concealed weapon. They gave him commands to put his hands on his head, when suddenly the suspect, later identified as 54-year-old Paul Newman, pulled a gun and fired at the officers.

The officers fired back at Newman, dropping him to the ground. They took cover behind their patrol car and waited for backup. As Newman was taken into custody it was discovered that he had a $100,000 warrant for dangerous drugs. He also had a backpack full of meth, heroin, and unspecified pills. A further search indicated that Newman had two guns in his possession. Newman was hospitalized and survived his injuries.
