US War Vets Are Teaching Ukrainians To Be Battlefield Medics

A group of US military veterans is on the ground in Ukraine teaching civilians and medical personnel combat lifesaving techniques as the Russian invasion continues to inflict casualties on the Ukrainian people.

The Global Surgical and Medical Support Group (GSMSG), a Special Operations Forces veteran-led non-profit medical outreach charity organization, is no stranger to conflict zones and disaster areas. They provided extensive surgical and medical services in northern Iraq during the war against ISIS, supported humanitarian efforts in earthquake-ravaged Haiti, and have deployed on lifesaving medical operations in South America and Africa.

In Ukraine, GSMSG training teams are teaching civilians basic tactical combat casualty care (TCCC) skills that will give people the knowledge to save the lives of their family and community members should Russian rockets and bombs target their neighborhoods. GSMSG surgical teams are conducting emergency surgeries as needed while also teaching local medical personnel new techniques to treat unique battlefield related injuries like gunshot wounds, eviscerations, and severe burns.

GSMSG has also translated TCCC training manuals and Mass Casualty Decontamination (chemical attack) guidelines into the Ukrainian language for distribution. If you'd like to support this selfless crew, simply grab a shirt or patch HERE
