The following video shows a US mounted patrol in Iraq become the target of a Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) or car bomb.

The footage came to us without context but clues within the videos itself suggests it's after the defeat of the Iraqi Army and into the insurgency phase, as evidenced by the booby trap. The soldier's uniform appears to be desert camouflage worn as late as 2005. So that gives us a possible incident date between 2003 and late 2005.

The fact that this was filmed inside the lead vehicle of the convoy and the vehicle commander didn't call out the abandoned vehicle on the side of the road over the radio, nor did the driver deviate his course to give the possible threat stand off distance, suggests this is very early on in the insurgency when no tactics or procedures had been yet developed to mitigate what would become the most common threat.

The extent of the injuries to the US personnel are not known by us.
