US Apache Helo Makes Emergency Landing In Romania, Pilots Heckled By Locals

A US Army AH-64 Apache helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in a Romanian field on or around May 27, 2021, during the Europe Defender 21 multinational military exercise.

The reason for the emergency landing isn't clear at this point, but witness video shows locals driving up to the grounded aircraft and jokingly asking the flight crew if they needed gasoline. Being US military officers who were not taught humor at the academy, they dryly, but courteously declined the offered assistance.

Exercise Defender Europe 2 involves 26 nations with around 28,000 multinational forces building operational readiness and interoperability between NATO allies and partners. The exercise in Romania may have been a smaller linked airborne operation drill called Swift Response.
