Ukrainian Machine Gunner Has Negligent Discharge - Almost Kills Friend

A Ukrainian machine gunner that is actively suppressing Russian targets experiences a malfunction that turns into a negligent discharge. The discharge nearly kills the guy standing to his immediate left.

This is one of those "Don't end up on Funker530" moments you always hear about ladies and gentlemen. What we're looking at in this video is a lack of experience by the machine gunner. Everyone knows that when you have a malfunction you're supposed to wait 5 seconds for a hang-fire or cook-off. After that you can pull the weapon down and start running through immediate and remedial actions to get your gun back in the fight.

I know, I know, you've heard it a thousand times, in the heat of battle you might not have five seconds to wait for those two probable malfunctions. It's situationally dependent though, and we can't be sure that it was a hang-fire or cook-off that caused this ND anyways. It could have also been a number of other things that caused the weapon system to go off, but we can't tell since the machine gun isn't in frame when it discharges.

Fortunately, the guy to the left of the Machine Gunner doesn't appear to be hit. He seems more shaken by the fact that the machine gun itself just went off directly next to his head judging by the fact that he points at his ears before the camera cuts to the next scene in the sequence of events.

Also, one more thing. I'm fairly certain the other Ukrainian is wearing a surplus M1 helmet from the Vietnam era.
