Ukrainian Gets Shot While Improving Fighting Position

Footage recorded on the cell phone a Ukrainian Soldier manning a fighting position captures the moment one of the two troops is shot while improving the camouflage around their area.

One of the key things in Soldiering during a war is continuing actions. There are continuing actions in every phase of war. These are things that the troop must continuously do in order to remain safe and effective and they're a normal part of the cycle of the infantryman. In this video, we're seeing a Ukrainian get hit while he's conducting one of those continuing actions for the defense.

When you're in a fighting position, one of the those actions that needs constant continuous work is the state of your fighting position. It's an operation that goes on without pause for the duration of the time you're in the hole. This includes everything from increasing the depth of the hole, increasing the height of the parapet on the outside of the hole, and building up and refreshing the camouflage that makes it difficult for the enemy to spot your position at a distance.

An unfortunate reality of that continuing action is that sometimes troops need to briefly expose themselves in and around their position to improve them. Here we're seeing a Ukrainian get pretty unlucky and take a round from a Russian who clearly has solid line of sight into their fighting hole. It's unclear if the Soldier survived the gunshot, or if he was simply wounded or saved by his armor.
