Two Russian Soldiers are spotted by a commercial drone pilot while they're pinned down together behind a small piece of micro-terrain. They proceed to wave at the drone.

This is an Ain't war Hell moment if I've ever seen one. Imagine you're laying behind the tiniest piece of micro-terrain in an open field getting shot at, and then a quadcopter drone from DJI flies overhead and just stops to look down at your position. You know the drone is owned by the people trying to kill you. You know you have absolutely nowhere to go. There's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

I believe these Russians have found the only appropriate response in this situation.
