Footage taken during Operation Inherent Resolve shows a number of precision strikes against Islamic State targets while an officer explains the process of approving an airstrike.

This video kind of makes you wonder. The officer in charge here seems to have a pretty solid grasp on what it takes to get a precision guided munition off the rails and onto the target. What I want to know however is where were all of these standard fool-proof operating procedures at in August of this year when an errant airstrike went off the rails, killing several civilians near Kabul, Afghansitan.

To me, the process seems pretty clear and straight forward. Get intelligence. Vet intelligence. Get eyes on target. Select the right type of munitions to cause the least amount of collateral damage. Kill the target. I guess we just skipped that second process back in August because we needed a win over at the Pentagon.
