The Corpse of Bakhmut

Video of a drive through the shattered remnants of Bakhmut. Just as life will spring from a carcass, so is foliage growing in the corpse of this grubby industrial city. This is the face of war, an imperial war fought to seize territory from others. Most of the more than 70,000 people who lived in Bakhmut before the war have fled or been killed, and most of the structures in the city are damaged beyond repair. The greenery merely conceals the destruction, the evidence of lives irrevocably changed or snuffed out.

Cam
Cam served as an infantry officer in the Marine Corps, deploying to the Horn of Africa and participating in combat operations in Iraq. He currently works in the maritime industry and in the defense sector as an instructor of combined arms planning and operations. An avid sailor, Cam founded and directs Triumph Sailing, a nonprofit that supports veterans and first responders through adventure and fellowship on the water.
