(Storytime) Soldier At JRTC Engineers 150-Round Magazine For His Boom-Stick

Published Dec. 4, 2021

Oh the fond memories many of us who had the honor of participating in either JRTC or NTC have. As a former Army grunt, there have been many inventions I believe should be patented; innovated by soldiers in the field who have literally nothing better to do.

Budget drum mag alternative? I think so! Who needs to spend a few hundred dollars on a real 150-round mag, when the army provides an endless supply of 100-mph tape and 5-50 cord?

In my personal experience, I think one of the best innovative ideas I utilized while at NTC, was an emptied wooden ammo crate, tied together with bungee cords. What was this mysterious box used for? Well, for those of you who have never had the prestigious honor of participating in these training events, if you have to drop a number deuce in the field, you have to s*** in what they call, Wag Bags.

What? Did you think you could just, poo all over the place solider?! Negative. Making a long story short, when you try squatting to drop your load into a Wag Bag, it is a very awkward feeling. SO, what we did was make a place holder for that Wag Bag to wrap around. Moral of the story, a splintered wooden ammo crate has a dual purpose of being a toilet....

You're welcome.

You let us know in the comments below, whether it was during deployment or training, some of the clever, innovative ideas you witnessed during your service.
