Somali security forces utilize an unknown explosive on the top of a Hayat Hotel in Mogadishu after a group of al Shabaab militants took control of the top floor of the building.

The explosion you're seeing in this video was the destruction of explosives emplaced by al Shabaab militants while Somali security forces were retaking control of the building. In total, the 30-hour long siege left 21 people dead and 117 people wounded at the very least. “It is possible there were corpses that were not taken to hospitals but buried by relatives. The death toll and the casualties are based on the figure taken to hospitals,” Health Minister Ali Haji Adan told national broadcaster SNTV on Sunday.

Currently, the siege at the Hayat Hotel in Mogadishu is being reported as one of the deadliest hotel sieges in the history of Somalia. It is also the first attack in the country since President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud took office in May.
