Footage out of Russia shows police responding to a call and being met by a drunk man holding a knife. While the police are armed with pistols, the extreme close quarters nature of the small apartment combined with the degraded cognitive state of the armed man make this a very dangerous situation. They repeatedly try to coax the man to drop the weapon, but he refuses.

Eventually the man makes the mistake of closing the distance between himself and the responding officers and they are left with no other choice but to shoot him. According to the report, the cops shot the man in the leg and he survived.
