Interestingly composed footage, reportedly out of Syria, shows Russian mortarmen carrying out a fire-fore-effect fire mission on an 82mm mortar system.

It's not clear from the footage if the fire mission was part of a live fire exercise or an actual combat support operation. The high angle capabilities of mortar systems allow the Russians to defensively engage insurgents in the rugged mountainous Latakia region where the enemy often has the high ground.
