Russian Drone Becomes Lawn Dart After MANPADS Strike

Witness video captures the rapid descent of a crashing Russian Orlan-10 observation drone after destroyed by a reported LMM Martlet man portable air defense system (MANPADS).

A small unmanned, unarmed drone may seem, to some, like a waste of an advanced surface-to-air missile, but the data that these drones provide to their controllers is invaluable. By shooting down this drone, the Ukrainians just took away the Russian's ability to identify and locate targets for airstrikes and artillery. It also affords them a small window of time in which they can maneuver and relocate units without being observed.
