Runaway Teenager's Escalate Foot Chase Into Shootout

On February 28, 2021officers from the Muskogee Police Department engaged in a foot chase with two runaway teenagers from Nebraska. The two 17-year-old runaways were located in Muskogee, Oklahoma on February 28, 2021 when the two attempted a car jacking near Highway 62 and North 24th Street.

Police attempted to pull the stolen vehicle over, but the suspects refused. After a short car chase, the suspect driver crashed the vehicle and the two began fleeing on foot. Once on foot, one officer warns the suspect they will be tased. A few moments later, the female suspect begins firing at the officer with a handgun, where she is then struck multiple times by the officers service weapon.

The male suspect continued fleeing officers through the woods, where they eventually lost sight on the suspect. Before locating the male suspect, officers heard multiple shots ring out. Soon after, officers located the male suspect, who had multiple self inflicted gun shot wounds. Both suspects were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The four officers involved were later placed on administrative leave. As of recent news, the Muskogee County DA Office determined the police officers involved had justifiable evidence for the shooting.
